US-based biotech company Advanced Aesthetic Technologies (AAT) has introduced its agarose-based facial filler, Algeness VL, to China's fast-expanding medical aesthetics market, marking a new milestone in facial contouring and reconstruction treatments.
The product received approval from China's National Medical Products Administration, according to AAT's Chinese distributor, China Biotics, on October 28. Algeness VL is already sold in more than 40 countries and regions worldwide.
China's injectable aesthetics market has grown rapidly, surging over 2.5 times from 2018 to 2023 to reach CNY 67 billion (USD 9.4 billion) — a 21.1% compound annual growth rate, public data show. Consultancy Frost & Sullivan projects the market will more than double again to CNY 147 billion (USD 20.6 billion) by 2027.
While demand for advanced fillers is soaring, few Chinese firms are developing agarose-based products like AAT's. One notable exception is Shanghai-based Petal Biotechnology, which began constructing a production facility for similar fillers last month.
