Tesla's Beijing division is initiating its second recall of 870 Model X vehicles imported into China due to safety concerns related to roof trims potentially detaching, as announced by China's State Administration for Market Regulation last week.
The recall affects 870 imported Model X electric cars manufactured between March 16 and July 31, 2016, following a previous recall in November 2020. The issue stems from weakening adhesive used to secure the roof trims, which are crucial in diverting water and wind. Failure of these trims while driving could lead to accidents, according to the regulatory bureau.
Tesla Motors Beijing will conduct complimentary vehicle inspections, including a pull test on the roof trim. Defective trims will be replaced to ensure continued safety on the road.
