In a recent development reported by BNN Breaking, Japan has conducted an AI strategy meeting, revealing its intentions to establish a national agency dedicated to investigating generative AI safety and associated aspects.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida highlighted the presence of research institutions in countries like the United Kingdom and the United States, which influenced Japan's decision. The proposed "AI Safety Institute" aims to delve into assessment techniques for AI safety and establish comprehensive standards to ensure protection.

During the AI strategy conference, a set of guidelines, comprising 10 principles, were also proposed. These principles urge companies to prioritize people's well-being and safeguard privacy when developing or utilizing generative AI. Additionally, the guidelines emphasize the importance of ensuring safety, transparency, and security.

Japan intends to finalize and implement these measures by March 2024, with due consideration given to public input. This initiative underscores Japan's commitment to fostering the secure advancement of its own AI-related products.
