Italian regulators announced on Monday that OpenAI's AI chatbot, ChatGPT, and its data collection technology have been found to violate privacy laws in the country. The investigation was initiated in March of last year, and the AI company has now been notified of the findings.

According to a statement by the Italian regulator, OpenAI has obtained information that suggests a potential violation of one or more EU regulations. OpenAI is required to respond to these findings within 30 days.

This is not the first time OpenAI has faced legal challenges. Previously, the company was sued by book publishers and the New York Times, who alleged that OpenAI had illegally used their content to train ChatGPT. In response, OpenAI argued that banning the use of copyrighted works for training chatbots would hinder the advancement of artificial intelligence. The company claimed that services like ChatGPT would not be possible without the ability to utilize copyrighted material.
