In a bid to facilitate enhanced business and personal travel between Guangdong province and the neighboring regions of Hong Kong and Macao, China has announced a relaxation of travel restrictions for specific cities in southern Guangdong.

Commencing December 1, residents of Shenzhen will be able to apply for a year-long multiple-entry permit to Hong Kong. This permit will enable unrestricted visits to the special administrative region, with each stay limited to seven days, as outlined by the National Immigration Administration.

Similarly, inhabitants of Zhuhai will have the opportunity to apply for a 'weekly' permit starting January 1 next year. This permit will allow for a single weekly trip to Macao, with each visit not exceeding seven days, as specified by the regulatory authorities.

Moreover, residents within the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone can avail themselves of a one-year multi-entry permit to Macao. This permit will facilitate unlimited visits to the special administrative region, with each stay valid for up to seven days.

The escalating demand for travel, cultural exchanges, and business interactions between mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao has shown a consistent upward trajectory in recent years. This progressive measure promises not only heightened convenience for travelers but also envisages a significant upsurge in local tourism and associated industries.

Travel bookings from mainland China to Hong Kong and Macao have surged by 11 percent this year compared to the previous year. Notably, residents of Shenzhen and Zhuhai will find it increasingly convenient to travel to these regions.

In light of this development, ferry and bus ticket sales from Shenzhen to Hong Kong have witnessed a notable 21 percent increase this year. Additionally, car rental bookings have soared by 53 percent, while entrance ticket sales have seen a substantial 38 percent jump, signifying a burgeoning interest in travel opportunities between these regions.
