When red wine or grape juice spills on clothing, it can leave stubborn stains that are difficult to remove. Even rinsing the stain with water immediately may not be effective enough. However, here's a simple and effective method that can help you quickly eliminate those stains.

Act quickly

The key to successful stain removal is to start cleaning the stain as soon as possible. The longer the stain sets, the more challenging it becomes to remove.

Blot and rinse

Begin by gently blotting the stained area with a clean cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Avoid rubbing the stain, as it can push the pigment deeper into the fabric. Then, rinse the stained area under cold running water to further dilute the stain.

Prepare the setup

Find a large bowl and place it in the sink. Stretch the stained part of the clothing around the mouth of the bowl, ensuring it is tightly secured.

Apply boiling water

Carefully pour boiling water over the stain, allowing it to flow through the fabric and into the bowl. The heat helps to break down the anthocyanin molecules present in red wine and grape juice, making it easier for the stains to dissolve in water. You will notice the stain fading rapidly as you pour the boiling water. Repeat the process if necessary until the stain is almost completely gone.

For stubborn stains, you can pre-treat the affected area with a stain remover or a mixture of mild detergent and water. Gently rub the solution into the stain before rinsing and applying the boiling water method.

Important Considerations

This stain removal method is suitable for fabrics that can withstand heat. Before attempting this technique, check the care label on the garment to ensure it is heat-resistant. Avoid using boiling water on delicate fabrics that may be damaged by high temperatures.

This method is particularly useful for removing red wine or grape juice stains from tablecloths and carpets. Follow the same steps mentioned above, ensuring the fabric can handle the heat.
