Pagoda Industrial Group, a prominent Chinese fruit retailer, has recently commenced the sale of Spanish persimmons, taking advantage of the relaxation of import regulations.

According to a report from Shanghai Securities News, The Natural Hand, a reputable Spanish supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables, successfully shipped the first batch of this delectable fruit to China. The approval to import Spanish persimmons into the mainland was granted by Chinese customs in the first half of last year. The initial shipment, weighing close to 16 tons, arrived in Shanghai on January 25 and has subsequently been effectively distributed to various locations.

With the debut of the Rojo Brillante variety of persimmons in the Chinese market, Pagoda aims to tap into the thriving demand for this fruit, which has historically enjoyed remarkable success in Asian markets like Singapore and Malaysia. An executive at Pagoda expressed enthusiasm over the opportunity to introduce Chinese consumers to these novel flavors. The importer plans to leverage the final batch harvested last year to further expand their presence in the country.

Spain holds the position as the largest exporter of persimmons worldwide, accounting for a staggering 210,000 tons of fruit. This volume represents approximately one-third of the global trade in persimmons.
