The European Council has recently announced a new regulation that requires mobile phone batteries to be removable and replaceable by end-users. The regulation stipulates that by 2027, all portable batteries integrated into appliances should be removable and replaceable. This new requirement will give manufacturers enough time to adapt their product design to meet this standard.

The ability to remove and replace batteries is an important aspect of product sustainability, as it allows users to extend the lifespan of their devices and reduces the amount of electronic waste generated. This new regulation will also promote consumer rights and provide greater convenience for users, as they will no longer have to rely on professional repair services to replace their phone batteries.

The trend of non-replaceable cell phone batteries began in the late 2000s and early 2010s, when smartphones started to become more popular. And the iPhone's popularity and success contributed to the widespread adoption of non-replaceable batteries in smartphones.
