Recent reports indicate that Qualcomm has begun developing the next-generation Snapdragon X2 series processors. As the successor to the existing Snapdragon X series chips, the Snapdragon X2 will continue to utilize the Arm architecture, prioritizing mobility and power efficiency while competing with Apple's M-series chips.
According to industry insiders, the Snapdragon X2 series does exist and includes an "Ultra Premium" variant, suggesting a more high-end offering compared to the current X series. This also indicates that the chip has entered the testing phase. Previous leaks from WinFuture last year revealed that Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X-series chip carries the model number SC8480XP and is internally codenamed Project Glymur.
One key advantage of Qualcomm's X-series chips is their full compatibility with Microsoft's Windows 11 AI+ PC ecosystem. They support Microsoft's Auto Super Resolution (Auto SR) technology, which leverages AI to enhance video quality and frame rates in games. The Snapdragon X series has received mixed reviews since its launch—while praised for power efficiency and AI capabilities, it has lagged behind AMD's Ryzen and Intel's Core X86 processors in raw performance, particularly in multi-core tasks. However, at present, performance may not be the most pressing challenge for Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series.
