Tesla, the leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has officially introduced a new feature called "Charge on Solar", which allows Tesla owners to charge their EVs by utilizing excess solar energy generated from their Tesla solar systems.

Charge on Solar is a feature available to Tesla owners in Canada and the US who have a Tesla solar system, a Powerwall, and a compatible vehicle. The feature requires a minimum software version of 2023.26 for the vehicle, version 23.12.10 for the Powerwall, and version 4.22.5 for the Tesla app. However, owners of a 2012-2020 Model S or 2015-2020 Model X are not currently able to use Charge on Solar.

Activation of the feature is simple and can be done through the Tesla app. Users can set their preferred charge location and limit, and adjust the sun slider to determine the source of energy for their vehicle’s charging needs. The sun slider allows users to choose between charging from solar and the grid, or exclusively from excess solar energy.

By utilizing Charge on Solar, users can decrease their reliance on the grid and reduce their electricity bills while maximizing their use of clean and renewable energy. Tesla recommends users to plug in their vehicles during daylight hours whenever they are at home, as the feature will adjust the charge power based on available excess solar power and overall power consumption in the home.

Tesla's Charge on Solar is a cutting-edge innovation that aims to seamlessly integrate its electric vehicles (EVs) with its energy products. By providing users with greater control and flexibility in their charging options, Tesla seeks to improve the overall customer experience and drive the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.
