A recent study highlights the importance of getting a minimum of 7 hours of sleep each night to maintain a youthful appearance. Termed as "beauty sleep," failing to meet this sleep requirement can prevent individuals from reaping its benefits.

The impact of insufficient sleep extends beyond mood and personality, significantly affecting one's appearance, particularly the face. A survey involving 2,000 participants from the UK revealed that over half of them, especially those aged 55 and above, slept less than seven hours per night. Female respondents reported noticing fine lines, loose skin, and minuscule wrinkles, along with experiencing anxiety and fatigue. Conversely, sleep-deprived men reported dry skin, under-eye bags, and a generally tired appearance.

Researchers utilized artificial intelligence technology to analyze the facial features of chronically sleep-deprived men and women across various age groups, using the data obtained from the survey. The study concluded that prolonged sleep deprivation can negatively impact both physical and mental health, significantly affecting the skin's condition, irrespective of age. While our genes do influence how we age physically, chronic sleep deprivation can exacerbate these effects.
