The European Commission announced on Sep 22 (local time) that it has fined US chip giant Intel €376 million (approximately $400 million) for abusing its dominant market position. The commission stated that Intel paid three computer manufacturers to halt or delay the launch of products containing chips from its competitors and restricted their sales channels.

This is not the first time Intel has faced such a penalty from the EU. Back in 2009, the commission imposed a record fine of €1.06 billion on Intel for the same violation. However, in 2022, the EU General Court in Luxembourg partially overturned the commission's decision and revoked the fine. The commission appealed the ruling and reopened the investigation, arguing that Intel's actions, which involved excluding its rivals from the market, constituted an abuse of market dominance.
